Itinerary ;

 

Day 1 - Wednesday : Athens - Arrival
Upon our arrival in Athens transfer to the hotel. Rest of the day at leisure. Overnight in Athens.

Day 2 – Thursday : Cape Sounion
Morning at leisure. In the afternoon we depart for our excursion towards Cape Sounion. Driving along the picturesque coastal road, past the beautiful beaches of Kalamaki, Glyfada, Voula, Vouliagmeni and Varkiza, with its countless coves, with the beautiful blue waters of the Saronic Gulf only feet from us, we continue toward Sounion. A crowning feature of the tour is Cape Sounion, famous for its radiant sunsets and dominated by the Doric white marble Temple of Poseidon that overlooks the blue Aegean Sea.  Return to the hotel for overnight. Day 3 – Friday : Athens
After breakfast we enjoy a half-day morning tour of Athens, combining many of the cities principal modern and classical sights. This tour includes an overview of the modern city and striking contrasts to the remains of its glorious past. Drive by the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in front of the Parliament House on Constitution Square, the Panathenian Stadium (site of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896). See the Presidential Palace (ex Royal Palace), government buildings and elegant homes. Drive along Panepistimiou Avenue and see the Catholic Cathedral, the Academy, University, National Library and Omonia Square. In contrast, we visit the Roman Temple of Olympian Zeus and the crowning beauty and glory that was Athens, the Acropolis with its many monuments atop its rocky base, including the awesome Parthenon, the Propylaea, the Temple of Athena Nike and the Erechtheum with its Porch of Maidens. We also visit the new Acropolis Museum. Return to the hotel. Free afternoon. Overnight at the hotel. (B)

Day 4 – Saturday : Athens – Epidaurus – Mycenae - Olympia
After breakfast we depart for our 4-day Classical tour. Short stop at Corinth Canal then drive to Epidaurus (visit the archaeological site and the theatre, famous for its remarkable acoustics) and then on to Nafplion (short stop). We drive to Mycenae where we visit the archaeological site, and then we depart for Olympia, through the central Peloponnese area passing the cities of Megalopolis and Tripolis. Dinner and overnight in Olympia. (B,D)

Day 5 – Sunday : Olympia - Delphi
After breakfast we visit the archaeological site and the museum of Olympia. Then we drive via Patras to Rion, across the channel to Antirion crossing over the new bridge considered to be the longest and most modern in Europe. We arrive in Nafpaktos and then continue on to Delphi. Dinner and overnight in Delphi. (B,D)

Day 6 - Monday : Delphi - Kalambaka
After breakfast we visit the archaeological site and museum of Delphi. Depart for Kalambaka. We drive through Amphissa, Lamia and Trikala. Arrive in Kalambaka, dinner and overnight. (B,D)

Day 7 - Tuesday : Meteora - Athens
After breakfast we visit the breathtaking rocky formations of Meteora and in the early afternoon we start the drive back to Athens passing via Thermopylae (stop for photos) and Kammena Vourla. Overnight in Athens. (B)


Day 8- Wednesday : Athens - Departure
After breakfast transfer to the airport for our departure. (B)
